Jules Okafor The Sunday letter
Alpine ridge at first light, fog in the valley below

I walk into the mountains with a camera and come back with a film every Sunday.

Solo backcountry, long exposures, and honest gear talk. 1.2 million of you watch. Based in Bozeman, mostly not at home.

This week, and the four before it

I was an accountant in Denver until a knee surgery gave me six weeks and a camera.

That was 2019. The first films were bad and nobody watched them, which turned out to be the freedom I needed. I kept going because the walking fixed something the desk had broken.

Now it's the job. One film a week, shot alone, edited in a van or a kitchen. No sponsors I don't use, no gear I haven't carried up something. The Sunday letter is where I say the things that don't fit in a film.

The Sunday letter

One email, Sunday morning. Where I went, what went wrong, one photograph that didn't make the film, and whatever I've been reading. 41,000 people get it. No sponsors in it, ever.

"The only newsletter I actually open. It reads like a letter from a friend who is somewhere colder than you."

See you Sunday. The first one comes from wherever I am this week.

What's in the pack

Everything I carried on the last film, with the weight. Links are affiliate where they exist. The opinions predate the links.

The presets I actually grade with

Lightroom and Capture One. Built over four years of cold mornings. Pay once, keep forever.

Work with me

I take four brand films a year and say no to most of what comes in. If your thing belongs in a pack on a ridge at 5am, we should talk. If it doesn't, I'll tell you quickly.

Past work: Hilleberg, Peak Design, Montana Office of Tourism, Patagonia Films (second camera).
Print licensing and speaking through the same address.
